Round Worms in 6 day Old Chick....What do I do?

I have my 1st ever chicks. They were mail order, shipped 4/16.

I have seen an occassional diarrhea looking stool on my paper towel in the brooder. Today I finally figured out who is doing it, and looked immediately at the stool. It appears their are rice looking things in the diarrhea. I assume these are round worms.

Chick seems to be health, eating, growing feathers, putting on weight so far.

I called the hatchery and they said if you have round worms treat with Piperazine. I did some research online and in all the chicken books I have and it says not until 4 wks of age... I am 3 weeks from that age!

This is my first try and I am only 5 days with these chicks. I need the help of somone who has some more experience with chicks....

Worm now or not....I have a total of 7 chicks, and they have all been together since the begining so they are all likely exposed.

I know pumpkin seeds are good to take away worms. I wonder if you crushed them up really small and added them to their food if that would help. They are natural, so I wouldn't think it would hurt! That is how all of my chickens are getting wormed, because it is natural and no chemicals. I am also curious to know which hatchery you got your chicks from.

round worms shouldn't look like rice, they should look like spaghetti with pointy ends. Tapeworm egg packets look like rice, but they can move.

OMG...............I just got the scare of my life, I seen a roundworm in the dropping of one of my 20 chickens. I just read to try pumpkin seeds and you can bet that I will try this especially since it is a natural seed. 2 weeks ago I lost a 7 week old Chihuahua baby to roundworms, although she was never outside the other dogs probably brought in the eggs or whatever, right?
i worry about how to treat because of all the animals I have. (which only consist of 4 dogs and 20 chickens)
So I guess what i'm really asking is about the chickens, I honestly did not know they could have worms.

How often do you worm with the pumpkin seeds?

I guess I wouldn't de-worm them at that age. They shouldn't have picked up worms yet, and they probably aren't too severe. If they have tapeworms, check and see if you have fleas on them.

If you keep seeing worms, then I'd probably deworm at 4 weeks.

I wonder this too, especially since I am assuming they have no access to dirt, weren't hatched under a broody, and aren't being fed worms from outside.

Sounds like you saw a yucky cecal poo with something in it?​
