Hiya, I have some Royal Palm turkeys that have brown in them? I was wondering if that was standard or if maybe their great great grandpa Tom was a bronze or something? Two females (smaller on in last picture) have almost all tan coloring and one male has a pretty mix of tan/brown along with the expected black. Thanks!

If they have any brown in them at all, they are not Royal Palms. They may be Tri-Color Palms or even something else. There are unethical people on eBay that are selling hatching eggs from Tri-Color Palms as Royal Palm hatching eggs.

The standard for a Royal Palm is black and white only. No other colors are permitted.

Thanks! That's interesting and good to know. I got them when they were a few weeks old from a local woman who was unsure about the color variations. I'm not going to be breeding (at least not to sell) or showing them, so I'm happy with my misfits. I personally think that Royal Palms, although pretty, are one of the more bland turkey colorings so I'm excited to see how they will look when fully grown. Now if only I could come up with a decent name for the little guy. He's the only one still nameless :(

One of the more striking varieties in the turkey family, wait till your tom matures and begins strutting, he'll be a sight to see.

Blessings,

Bo

I saw their father showing off and he is an impressive guy (I don't think he relaxed the entire time we were there!) I think my bias comes from watching the wild turkeys that have been visiting my place for years. Those colors and displays are amazing! In comparison, black and white is just a bit less exciting. But then again I'm fond of the slates too, but I can hardly declare that an all grey turkey is exciting. Regardless, I certainly won't mind if my poorly-bred misfits keep their bronze flair, lol! Thanks for sharing!

I have several varieties, Holland Whites, Blacks, Slates, Self Blue, Recessive Slate, Auburn, Chocolate, Regal Red, Bronze and Sweetgrass so I have a broad color spectrum of turkeys and I still find the Slates one of the more beautiful varieties. I don't have palms anymore due to predation but they are striking. With the varieties I have I can also make several other varieties such as Harvest Gold, Bourbon Red, Black Winged Bronze, Fall Fire, Red Sweetgrass, etc...
To the point....I like turkeys!!!!!!
Enjoy yours, they will give you years of entertainment.

Blessings,

Bo
