ROYALY CONFUSED! Video added on pg 2, help?

Here a 30 second video of Ollie in the tub making some noises...

If you listen carefully you can hear Vinny quacking up a storm in the background from the other room.

Ollie only makes these noises when seperated from Vinny, and only started making them this week. Ollie is almost 8 weeks old. S/he's only peeped until now.

Prior to this week, the two ducklings coudn't have cared less ot be near each other. This week we also introduced them to the big ducks, who are 8 mnths old. The big ducks have been picking on them pretty badly. Since then the two little ones have been sticking t each other like glue, safety in numbers i guess. lol.

Ollie only peeps all the time, still sounding like s/he did when we got her/him as a day old.

Vinny still peeps a bit, but it's definitely older sounding than ollie.

Is it enough to be dubbed female? I mean ollie was supposed to be a girl... Or is it a boy duck voice change?

And if i did end up with a boy, how old are they when they ecome interested in mating?

Wow, hmmm. I really don't know! It doesn't sound like my ducks' quacks, and I have never payed attention to the drakes to know how theirs sounds. The way I tell with mine is by picking them up, they always throw a fit. But yours are used to that, so I guess you would have to do something that they don't like, like maybe lock Ollie in a closet or something to get her to make noise. Have you tried vent sexing them? At this age, you shouldn't hurt them, and it would be fairly obvious if they look different. I'm used to big mouthed pekins and rouens, and they quack really loud! Sorry I couldn't be more help. I would still say that if what Ollie is doing is the same as what Vinny is doing, then they are both girls, but I don't know

I'm glad you see why i am royally confused! lol. I tried to flip ollie over but i have a problem finding the cloaca, mostly because of feathers. When i do find it i can't get the feathers out of the way. I guess i'll try again tonight with my fiance in hopes that two sets of hands might work better...

I didn't think so either, but like I said, I'm used to big-mouthed pekins and cayugas. I can hear my girls all the way out to the road, about 1/4 mile away

Ollie doesn't make that noise all the time... He tends to peep more often, and makes a more boyish screech when you pick him up... But this noise is baffling! If ollie is a boy he shouldn't make this noise at all right?

Boys are pretty monotone. If the duck has a vocal range (or a complete vocabulary like JJ had

) it is most likely a girl.
