rubbing a turkey's head

Our tom is a bit anxious because his ladies are sitting on eggs. He's been getting following us around and getting frisky with my husband's shoes. Really we can see him thinking about hoping on just about anything he can but he likes my husband's boots. We, for some reason, rubbed his head one day. he seems to like it. Why? He has been getting really frisky so I am beginning to think the head rubbing gets him excited. What is going on here? Does he like it or are we instigating a mating session?

I don't have an answer unfortunately but I was amused, because our tom just had a little "session" with my shoes when I was sitting down today!

Also, our female has always loved having her head rubbed. She nuzzles like a cat into your hand. Maybe their heads are just sensitive?

Head is definitely sensitive and he definitely likes it. Its a little nerve racking though trying to put up a fence and clear some of our brush when him stalking me. He doesn't go for my shoes. He eyes my back. I have to keep pushing him away and can't take my eyes off him. Little Booger.

I have a turkey that loves face/neck pets. I also have turkens that love having their bare skin touched. I think it's just an odd sensation they'd never experience otherwise and they enjoy it. You know, turkeys and chickens don't affectionately pet each other

The only time I see turkeys rubbing heads are when the toms are neck wrestling. And they take that very seriously.

So he hasn't escaped his pen in 2 days. I have gone down their to lock up the coop door and feed him and he hasn't seemed to care. Last night on my way out of the pen I gave his head a little rub. He leans in and stands nice. I walk back up to the house and look out the window and he has escaped the pen and is trucking his way to the house. I couldn't help but laugh. He put himself back up after about 5 minutes.

I've never seen it between turkeys, I only have 2 hens right now. She takes it very seriously- seriously relaxing! I'm fond of bringing her in for popcorn and a movie and she gets all the face and neck massaging she could ever want, cooing and purring all the while!
