I'm pretty new to the chicken coop. We had hens when I was young but, I was more interested in the dairy cows. Our house came with a fairly large chicken coop and run. So it was only a matter of time before we would start. Our daughter told us about a young rooster that was in need of a new home. Seems he was too noisy for the city. Rudy the Rhode Island was welcomed with open arms on a Saturday morning but, he looked so lonely. By Sunday evening we had 2 leghorns, 5 barred rocks, and 6 buff orpingtons...all under 5 months old. That was 3 weeks ago and I'm hooked.
