Hi,
Looking for help/advice.
I have this beautiful large Cochin hen. For the past month her feathers are all ruffled and not smooth like the other hens.
2 of my hens went broody for 3weeks and my rooster then chose her as his favourite hen. Which resulted in her loosing back feathers that are now growing back with the saddle protector. He now has all his hens back and is giving her more peace but I can't understand why her chest feathers would be like this, and she has lost all her tail feathers too. Would this be from him over mating her and they will soon get back to normal or is it a health issue? She lays normal, eats normal, acts perfectly healthy otherwise. No mites or lice & has been wormed. Often has a dirty behind aswell.
I'll attach pics of her now & 1 of what she used to look like!

Cochins have soft feathers. Mine are looking a bit rough too this time of year. Some is from mating, other feather loss is from sitting in the nest box. The poopy bottom could be from sinking more water or eating more fresh food. I would clean her up or trim her up to prevent fly strike.
