Bought this coop yesterday, and am concerned there is no roosting box. Should I be? Or do the chickens just need to get used to it?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I'm afraid your pic is not showing up of your coop. When you say roosting box do you mean nest box for the hens to lay their eggs in? Your birds should ideally not sleep and nest boxes but should roost and sleep on perches.

Hope you are able to get your pic added.

Enjoy BYC :frow

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I hope you're able to load a photo so we can see the coop. As Yorkshire Coop said...nesting boxes and roosts are 2 different things so not sure which is missing in your coop.

Are you in a situation where you already have chickens and they don't want to use the new coop?

Welcome to Backyard chickens. What size flock do you have? Usually you can get by with 1 nest box for each 3 hens, as they tend to use the same one (jealous I guess)

A roost bar that they sleep on at night is usually a 2 x 4 with the wide end up. Chickens are not graspers like wild birds, they prefer to have their feet flat on the roost. In cold weather they will lay their heads on top to keep feet warm.
