Run—how big?

I have 19 pullets that go in and out of a small, temporary run. They’re outgrowing that space, FAST! We need to set up their big area. How much space should I plan on? I can’t free range here unless I’m outside because of predators. I have 150ft of fencing right now ready to go. I’m trying to decide if I should buy more.

Input would be kindly appreciated. Thanks!

Are they bantams or full size? If they are full size you want about 190 square feet of run, but probably you'd want around 250 for extra space and future flock growth. If they are bantams, you want around 114 square feet, but probably more around 150-175 for extra space and flock growth.

They are a fun flock of mixed breeds, Sultans, Polish, EE, and Light Brahmas. Pretty neat! So, if I did the math correctly, I should have 900 sq ft of space for them, which is about 47 sq ft per chicken, so that should be plenty! We can always expand next year if they seem cramped. Thanks for the info!

As the recommended is 10 square feet per bird, 47 square feet per bird should be PLENTY!

I have 12 chickens. My run is a 10'x20' car port and it is enough room for them (200 sq. ft.)
Also important to note if they will free range at all. If you let them free range they dont need as much space but not less than the minimum suggested by other post.
Sounds like you have more than enough fencing.

I love light Brahmas, they are beautiful. And big sweethearts too. Sound like geese lol. Here are my girls.
