run away turkeys????

I let my turkeys out every evening for 1-2 hours before roosting time. They love it and follow me everywhere. When I get out of sight they call to me, I call back and they come running like a heard of horses

lol you can hear them trampling the ground. I walk around pulling weeds from the garden and they are right there with me eating any bugs I dig up before they get away. Anytime I need to go inside they go back to the safety of being close to the coop but come running when I come back out. They are so fun to watch!!

I say let them out an hour before roosting and see how it goes. Keep their favorite treat handy so you can lure them back in if need be. Good luck!!

The idea of keeping the food inside the pen works for me that's what I do and if they are older birds and you did not raise them at that location I would keep them confined to there pen from the time you got them for 2 to 4 weeks to be on the safe side.
And as stated here let them out for s few hours supervised.
Its different for everybody and as my Turkeys get older I might just stop clipping there wings but right now that's what I am doing because they would prefer to roost in the trees and I have to many coons and possums they would love to have a Turkey dinner.
As a wise man said once Turkeys are like a box of chocolates you just don't know what you might get.
