run/coop height?

Hi, I plan to a build a run/coop this spring. I have read not to make it any higher than 12" as if it was any higher the quail could fly up and injure their heads; I have also read to make it higher because they can jump up and injure their heads so I am confused as to how high I should make it. HELP! Thank you in advance for your reply.

You are talking about coturnix quail aren't you? Other types of quail need to fly. Fly pens are usually fitted with netting to prevent death by boinking.

12" is a good height. Any higher and you increase the % of death by boinking.

Confusion be gone. Here is an example of a 12" coop.

Less than 16" or more than 3ft to the ceiling and you won't have problems.
