Run Covering - Tell Me If I'm Stupid lol

I have the same kind of set up, chain link dog run turned chicken run. I started last November with one 10x10x6 run, covered with hardware cloth, top covered with 1x2 wire held up by running three 2x4x12s across the top of the fence for hawk protection. Then it snowed. I added a small tarp over a portion of the roof to protect the food area. More snow. I added clear plastic covering the top AND down 2 windward sides. Then the first of the 4, yes 4, Nor'easters hit, one following the other in quick succession. I was outside raking the snow off the top every hour on the hour for days! The snow sagged the tarp and wire, melted and froze into heavy ice, and had me panicking till it all remelted and ran off un spring. I'm a 67 old woman. Can't face that again this year. My son in law is building me a lean-to over top. The frame is slmost done but I'm not sure what I'll use as the roof. Depends on finances when we reach that point. Plywood? Clear corrugated plastic? Or tarp for the first year? Beams to hold the roof will be 1 foot apart so I'm hoping if I'm forced financially to go with tarps that it will be pretty strong and snow will slide off.
Oh, did I mention I extended the run to 10x30x6 by adding another dog run? Dumb me, this actually weakened the structure. Any snow load will pull the side fencing down inward. The lean-to will be covering the entire length to make up for my mistake.
Good luck with your roofing! :thumbsup

Any canopies and things like that will cave under heavy snow. Had that happen in the dog run. No more canopies or covers--it was a mess.

I have a heavy duty net and I'm going to have to stay on top of it with snow removal for it to work. I am putting supports in different areas but that isn't going to be enough. In the past few years we have gotten only one bigger storm each year and a few smaller ones. They are calling for a warmer winter and more rain then snow for this winter, so I'm really hoping here...

Maybe I'll just use PVC, probably work better.

How would you use the PVC? My run is pvc. I thought about heating the pvc and making a hoop(if you will) roof with the clear panels. I don't think I can get it done this year but maybe next. Using regular pvc would have to be done just right with supports and it depends on the width your covering. Mine is 15 to 20 ft wide.

I was going to use 45 degree couplers to make peaks, and then down to the ground and attach to the kennel panels.
