I fluff if and when it gets packed down.

Packed down means I see a quantity of poop on the top of the litter.

I just turn it over and spread it out a bit.
I keep a pitch fork in the coop on the wall.
It takes less than 1 minute.

Poop dries and disappears in the "deep" shavings.
Dust settles to the bottom.

I change the shavings out in the late fall.
This works very well for me.

I currently have 14 birds in a 50 square foot coop with a 200 square foot run accessible to them 24/7
