Run Flooring Recommendations?

So, the area where I placed my Coop & Run used to be a raised planter bed. I shoveled a lot of dirt.

But, right now the run is just straight dirt. It's pretty dry here in Idaho. But I don't want it to be a complete mess. I thought about seeding, but that takes WAAAAAY to long.

Any recommendations on what I can put down? Pebbles? Sand? Wood Chips? What's easiest to clean? I don't want the run to smell in a week from all the pooping.

Also, it's not completed yet.

Look up deep litter.

I used a mix of pine straw, leaves, wood chips, wood shavings, and any other random organic material I had readily available and I never had any odor issues with my in-town chickens that way.

I added new litter on top when it looked messy and forked it out when I needed garden compost or when it built up too high.

I will add, however, that I live on very sandy soil that is extremely well-drained.

Drainage, dryness and availability of materials are all considerations. Sand does tend to work better in drier climates, deep litter in areas where wetness may be more of a concern. Either way, good drainage at run site is ideal to minimize stink.
