My coop and run are on an old concrete building foundation and concrete pad. Love it! Nobody can dig in, and it would be easier to pour a concrete pad than to dig wire in, I would think. Definitely more expensive, but very secure. Mary

As others mentioned, you might want to consider simply putting down an apron.

No digging necessary.

Great feed back. The cement part is actually easy for me since I've been laying cement around the house on various projects, and although my body hates it, my mind is certainly used to it!

I might put sod over the cement (I have a way of making it grow in shallow areas) so they can have some comfort and rip it up.
