Run for Ducks

What is everyone using to cover the ground in their duck run? We currently have a short flagstone path that leads to a small pond. The hubs wants to put down a small area of decomposed granite to set a small table and chairs on so we can sit in this area with them. Was thinking of using moss in the cracks of the flagstone. The rest of the ground is currently mud and is just a mess when it rains.

I use dirt! I would love my run to eventually be pea gravel though!

I think what you are suggesting will work... haven't tried that though.

Thank you! It’s looking pretty but most importantly I want it to be a safe and fun space for my little quackers! I’m worried the decomposed granite might be too sharp on their feet. Whatever we are doing, we are doing this weekend. I’ve been scouring the inter webs and whatnot but not much info other than hay, straw, or pineshavings is mentioned and those are not options.

I’ve read lots of posts about pea gravel and most people say it ends up being really stinky. ‍

They key is being able to power hose the poo off or through or away.
