do you think it would be ok to use poultry netting if i put the chickens in at night? because i plan to put them in and out anyway. what do you think?

As long as you're aware of the risks involved. Poultry wire won't keep dogs w/a purpose out, and dogs will most likely be your primary daytime predator from the ground. If your coop/run is contained in a securely fenced backyard or something like that, it would greatly reduce such risks. Securing them inside the coop at night very important if you're using chicken wire.

And note that one's OWN dog is the culprit more often than you might think, even people who were SURE their dog was "great with chickens" and "would never hurt them".

If you want a relatively inexpensive daytime run fence I would suggest 2x4" mesh, perhaps with something smaller mesh added on the bottom 2' (even if that's just 1/2" plastic garden netting). Dogs will not rip *that* apart, although obviously a few dogs can go over it.
