Hey everyone! Building the chicken run that my coop that we inherited when we bought the property was missing. The area around the coop is somewhat rocky, little ones, big ones, medium ones... so what is the ideal run flooring look like? All dirt and grass? Some rocks okay? No rocks ok?
These birds will be free ranging, and not in their coop unless we are out to town or something, and is mostly for those days when they cant be free ranging around the yard destroying bug populations.
So with that in mind whats the thought?
We are going to be making the run around 175-200 square feet, using hardware cloth for it. We will be having around 25-30 birds, the run will be smaller than the 10 square feet rule because they wont be in there very often (hopefully). And I'm hoping they wont be all uppity because the space is smaller, has anyone had any similar experiences?
Flock composition:
15 Delaware Chickens
5 Black Australorp
5 Cinnamon Queen
5 Royal Purple Guinea (may get 10 total, dont know yet)
Also this will be a trial run for the next coop we are going to build some time in the near future to hold more insect population destroying chickens. So any advice on chicken runs/coops would be nice. The next coop could potentially hold around 20-40 birds (if i get my way hahah)
