Run security, please give me your thoughts about our design

You are very right about having to worry about the 2 legged critters as well as the 4 legged ones.

This country is so headed towards a huge economic collapse and there really is no way to stop it from coming given the amount of debt the USA currently has on the books. When people that aren't used to being hungry suddenly find themselves in such a situation, they tend to loose their minds and fail to consider the consequences of their actions. It may seem paranoid but I've seen it happen in war torn countries before and it happened here during the great depression which may end up looking like a cake walk when the next one hits us and we are running straight at it.

Not many critters can squeeze through 2 x4 fencing but all of the predators can reach through it. 1/2 " hardware cloth prevents most everything from getting in or reaching through. (Raccoons are famous for reaching into a coop and killing a bird just to kill it).

Your Hubby did an outstanding job on that coop and run so far.
I would definitely fasten the apron to the bottom rim of the coop, critters are notorious for thinking clearly on how to get to that tasty chicken dinner. You have to make it so hard the effort isn't worth the reward.

Thanks! And he says he hates carpentry!
I had heard of raccoons reaching in like that but I didn't know they killed the chickens for fun when they did it! Jeez. We are planning to keep it simple and just padlock everything to keep them out. Hardware cloth around the bottom of the run should prevent grabbing. That's so creepy of raccoons to do.
Yeah I think he overestimated the power of dirt to hold things in place. We have foxes, possums, raccoons, feral cats, and we are maybe a mile or 2 from the river so whatever predators frequent rivers in Indiana, we have them. Apparently there are coyotes around too but everyone just hears ten never sees them.

Agreed. This country had no idea the evil that controls it.
We have a size able vegetable garden growing right by the coop with corn, squash, zucchini, onions, broccoli, green beans, watermelon, and tons of tomato. We also
Have plenty of guns to keep poachers away (I just hope the govt leaves us alone) but unless we start preserving what we are growing it's basically useless lol.
Currently we have 4 chickens and 2 guineas but half are boys, lol. 2 silver sebright roosters and a guinea male, and a barred rock hen, EE hen, and guinea hen, hopefully the two hens are superb and prolific layers, lol,

We are way out in the country, I don't think there is a predator that we don't have except possibly bears. We have a coyote pack that runs the fields of the cattle farm that butts up to the back of our acreage and though we haven't seen them, I know they are there and will eventually come up to see what we have. The more difficult I can make it for critters the better, while I don't have an issue with terminating any animal that threatens my life and way of living, I don't relish having to do so. I prefer to live with nature, all animals are welcome as long as they don't become a threat to our animals or gardens and orchard. We live with deer, fox, raccoon, badger, groundhog, rabbits, owls, hawks, eagles, buzzards, wild dogs, and cats including bobcat and puma. So far all is well for everyone.

Very nice coop, I like the raised coops, ours is on a slope so it is lower at the front than the back.

How many chickens do you have in the coop?
Would you say this coop is too big, just right, too small etc for a flock of 2 guineas, 2 hens, and 2 silver sebright Roos (bantams)? Btw I didn't mean to have two roosters lol, my sebright hen "turned into" a rooster recently at 5 weeks old (I guessed wrong, she started crowing is how I knew)

My hens Lydia (BR and the little queen of the flock) Ducky (the sweetest most lovable bird ever, her head is turning blue thank god I don't like the white headed guinea) and Macao (she's the timid, shy girl of the group).

and these are my baby roos, Atilla and "Serenity" from when she was still a she. I have a boy keet also but as of right now he never holds still long enough to take a picture, he thinks Ducky is his mommy it's so cute.
