I have 1000 SQ Ft of run for 9 birds. They are let out to free range about 4 days a week for all day. Grass was gone in about a month. But it is a shaded area. Not much grass to start with. I saw some where on here where a guy recommends four runs being built around the coop. Built so you can control which run they use. They use each run for two weeks then move on to the next run. That gives each section six weeks to recover. Other than that, there is not much you can do. Unless you want to go to a Chicken Tractor.
