Run size????

This question has probably been asked before but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

I know that, ideally, the chickens would love to just run free and cover the state of Wisconsin but that is not possible because of some live in predators. (Dogs) My question is, minimally, how much space do my chickens need for their outdoor run.

The more you give them the more they will enjoy and keep your grass there, if its small your going to have a dirt/mud hole. They'll pick it clean.

I have 40x30 foot run, its open and that might be an issue later but with 19 birds in it the only place thats bare is right around the Coop.

As a general rule, 10 square feet of run space per bird.

I agree with catfish, the more room the better, though.

I think the official number is 10 sq ft. per bird in run.....
I give mine much more....probably like 25 each... (for secure run, DH says they are spoiled...

)
also let them free range about an hour a day when I can monitor the red-tail preditors.
Even with all the run space they do have...there is no grass in it....
