Run Size

I'm so excited! I finally found a Chicken Coop that will hold all my babies. I wanted to make sure my run is large enough, and yes they will be in it the majority of the time. Even though my yard is fenced in, I need to keep my dogs away from them. I want to plan for 16 chicks...we have 11 we are keeping right now out of what we have (some are roos we are in the process of getting rid of), but we will most likely bump back up to 16 this summer. Is 160 square feet of run space an accurate number? Or do they need more or less?

If you total number is 16 then 160 sf would be ok. Bigger would be even better since they will not have any free range time.

I have ten birds currently and my run area is just over 2000sq ft. They have plenty of space, but have scratched it down to nothing but dirt. No grass left at all. I'm in the process of building a larger run and dividing it up into 3-4 blocks where I can move them around to different areas every few weeks to keep the grass in good shape for them.
