Girvan stirred and licked his lips. Why am I so thirsty? It felt like he hadn't tasted water for years. He tried to move but searing pain shot through his neck and down his back. He growled in protest but it came out more as a whimper.

(( Yeah. About him being promoted to beta; I'm giving wildriverswolf a couple more days to reactivate Aki. I'm going on a trip this weekend, and if she's not back by then, he'll be promoted ))

Piper looked at him with sad, purple eyes. "I...you...we can't be friends...you can't be at peace with Scar even though he promised not to kill you. I can't live in the fear that something might happen...that he might leave me or that you...you might be hurt. He's the only family I have left, Garron! But you are my only friend..."
She took a shaky step back and hung her head, the tears rolling down her nose. "Besides...I'm not good enough to be your friend, Garron. You deserve someone better than me. I'm no good at hunting or tracking or talking to others or anything...I...I'm nothing."
