Willowpelt was padding through the woods, close to PinePack.

(*Cough cough* Owl *Cough cough*)

Theos padded through the forest, his ears pricked at the melodies of the birds and his eyes scanning the forest before him. Mud from the puddles twisted up around his paws, staining his white paws a dark brown. He began marking the borders, glancing out into the loner land every so often.

Phoenix trotted into the Stonepack den site with a large rabbit hanging from his jowls. "Faedon?" he called, stepping up to the mouth of their den.

Faedon was curled up in her nest. She raised her head, her movements sluggish from weakness, when Phoenix came in. "Hi, Phoenix," she murmured a greeting to him. As of late, Faedon had been ill; she couldn't run like she used to without nearly fainting, and she couldn't eat without having it come right back up seconds later. The pack was growing increasingly concerned about her, especially after the battle, when the risk of infection from wounds was especially likely.

Phoenix came in, clearly worried, as his eyes had lost their excited, energetic glow. He nosed her gently, and set the rabbit down away from her. He didn't want to tempt her to eat, since it never did stay down. "How are you feeling?" he asked, his ears drooping.

"Sick," she sighed. She felt guilty; while the rest of the pack was out hunting and refreshing the borders, she was sitting in her den all day. She flinched as a searing pain shot through her abdomen for about the millionth time that day. "Today is the worst it's been, though," she admitted. Her voice was quieted.

Phoenix's eyes were cloudy with severe worry. "Faedon... you don't think you'll.." he cut himself off and started again. "You don't think it's serious... do you?"

Faedon's usually bright, alert pine green eyes were now dullened. She heaved a sigh, and rested her head on her white paws. "I don't know, Phoenix." That statement alone spoke volumes of Faedon's condition; she was usually fiery and stubborn, and by her tone, it seemed as though she was almost relenting to her illness. One thing was clear; she was in much, much more pain than she dared to show.

Phoenix felt his heart lurch. He pressed his nose, cold from the chilly evening air, into her neck fur. Then he laid down beside her to share his warmth, and rested his head on his paws. He stared at the wall of the den, and felt his heart beat quicken as terrifying thoughts ran through his mind like a wildfire.
The sun sank below the horizon, and night fell over the taiga. The night sky was like a silky blanket covering the taiga and the mountains, seemingly reaching for the stars themselves. The night was calm, yet tension gripped the air, growing tighter and tighter with each second until it seemed hard to breathe. Faedon had fallen asleep, but she was just a little too...still. Her breaths were short and ragged, and just barely enough for her to get air. Along with this, there was an increasing feeling of dread falling upon the densite; it seemed as though something life-alterig would happen tonight. Judging by Faedon's condition, it wasn't hard for many to jump to the conclusion that she would run among the stars tonight.
Phoenix stayed awake all night, looking into the sleeping face of his mate, and uttered small whines of concern. He leaned close against her, squeezing his eyes shut and saying a tiny prayer.
When the moon was highest in the sky, Faedon began to stir. A muffled whimper escaped her muzzle, and a spasm visibly rippled down her abdomen.
Phoenix shot to his paws, and let out a strangled yelp. He nosed Faedon, and then raced from the den to Senkah. "Senkah!" he howled.
"What, Phoenix?" Senkah was at her paws in seconds. Without even asking him anything further, she sprinted over to her daughter's den. Faedon was clawing at the moss, and by now, it had been shredded. A crowd was forming, and Senkah snarled at them to shoo them away.
Phoenix curled up a few inches away from Faedon. "What's wrong with her Senkah?" His voice was shaky and his eyes pleaded for an answer.
"I don't know. Be quiet." Senkah's voice was curt and tense. Behind her blue eyes, although well hidden, was something that had only rarely, if ever, seen by the Stonepack wolves: not fear, but uncertainty.

Faedon whimpered as the pains got worse and worse. Am I... dying? The thought frightened her, and yet comforted her in a very strange, inexplicable way. She began to writhe, but her movements were weak and feeble. No, no... Please, Lupin... Phoenix and I were going to have pups... I'm not ready... She felt something shift inside of her. Searing pain shot through her Bdomen, and a hushed whimper escaped her muzzle. And then.. Something very strange happened.

A pup was born.
Phoenix's heart jumped. His eyes lost focus and he felt himself lurch forward....... and smack the ground nose-first. He was out cold.

The small she-wolf noticed something in the distance. She pinned her ears and put her tail between her legs.
