Lightning's eyes were tightly shut, and her legs quivered. Her breaths stuttered as she struggled to maintain a grip on life. Senkah followed Nike, dropping to her knees as tears filled her eyeswhen she saw Lightning. Nikki examined the swollen paw, "remember when we were wrestling that day and Lightning got a stick in her foot? The wound... it became infected..."

Nike pressed against his mate, in an effort to comfort her.

Elan entered the den just in time to hear Nikki's comment. Tears sprang into his eyes, and he rushed to Lightning, licking her cheek. "Please Lightning. Don't leave me." He pleaded.
 
"She has to live, Nike. She just has to," Senkah whispered.

Lightning weakly opened her eyes. "There's a herb that could heal her," Nikki said, "but it's very risky to get and it's very rare. It's called black reed."

"She will." Nike whispered, trying to fight back tears.

"I'll go! I'll do anything!" Elan howled, tears streaming down his cheeks.
 
Senkah nodded uncertainly, knowing that there was a good chance that Lightning would die. Her tears stained her black fur.

Nikki sighed, "it's only found by the Darkpack stream. I'll go instead," she padded out of the den and ran towards Darkpack.

Aki raced after, he wasnt' about to let her go to darkpack by herself. "Wait up!" He barked to Nikki.
