Elan nodded. "Yeah, my head is just weird." He winked, and licked her.
 
Lightning nodded. "Are well enough to..."
 
Lightning took a deep breath, her eyes closed painfully. It pained her to say what she had to. "Elan, I- I can't stay here. My mother's insane; she already tried to kill me once. It's getting worse here everyday, and with pups on the way, I just don't think I can do it." She sighed and looked at her paws. A few tears clouded the corners of her eyes."I didn't know if you wanted to come or not, but if you don't want to leave your family, I won't make you."

A quiet whimpering sound came from below the ground. Mari slammed her paws into it and the dirt collapsed. Then there was a flurry of snarling and growling.

Mari clawed at the shadow, it's dark figure raking it's teeth down her shoulder. Mari screamed in pain, and lunged for her daughter, who sat huddled in the corner.
