Nikki sitirred a bit, and she repeated under her breath, "Chayton... Chayton...."

Wind stepped back to stand beside Scarlet. "she'll be okay," Wind whispered to her, even though he was just trying to comfort her.

Chayton's ears perked forward, his pink tongue licking her face and neck gently. "It's okay; everything is okay." He whispered, though his voice quivered.

"Oh, Wind, I hope so." Scarlet whimpered, leaning her head against his shoulder.
 
Sitka came in with some rushes and cobwebs.

Nikki's eyes slowly opened.

Wind licked her ear comfortingly, but was just as worried about his sister as she was.

Chayton didn't look up, only smiled at Nikki, his eyes shining with tears. "Hi." He said, his voice gravely.

Scarlet nodded, then hurried forward to take some of the cobwebs and rushes. "Put those around her leg." She said, pointing to the rushes.
 
Sitka nodded, and began weaving the rushes around Nikki's leg.

Nikki glanced up at Chayton, her eyes filled with pain.

Scarlet wrapped the cobwebs around her other wounds, pressing them lightly. They turned red slowly, but the bleeding began to stop. "Good." She murmured.

Chayton curled his head around her's, a deep, soothing rumble emitting from his chest.
 
Sitka nodded. "Wind, get her some water."

Wind nodded and trotted out. He returned with some wet moss and nudged it to Nikki's nose. Feebly, she began to lap at it.

"It's a good thing she ran from the cave-in when she did," Sitka murmured to herself. "If she had waited a fraction of a second longer, she'd be with Starpack now." Even more quietly she added, "if Starpack doesn't call her anyway." She hadn't intended for it to reach anyone else, but Chayton and Scarlet could hear it.

Chayton's ears went back, panic rising in his heart. "I love you Nikki... I love you." He whispered over and over to her.

Scarlet pinned her ears, letting Sitka know with her eyes that she hadn't needed to say that.

Nikki looked up at him, then looked at everyone in the den. "C-can we?" She asked hesitantly, her voice weak. She was clearly asking for some time alone with Chayton.

Sitka's eyes hardened, "I didn't mean for you to hear that," she hissed, but fell back as Wind gave his sister a "back off" look.
