It's a hot day today and I sent my DS out to make sure his ducks had fresh water. They also have a pond that they have been swimming in all day. He found 1 of his almost 2 year old runner ducks dead with her insides lying outside of her. She had an egg next to her. Not sure if it was hers or not. She had been sitting on a nest for awhile, but did not hatch any ducklings. Not sure if she was just getting back into laying again or what. I think we will throw this egg in the bator and hope for it to hatch.

I am so sorry, that's just terrible. i recently lost one of my girls but thankfully i didn't have to find her remains all laid open somewhere. hope the egg hatches for you

The insides on the outside may have nothing to do with cause of death, FYI.
Intestines can be expelled if the pressure from the gasses that build up inside a body after death become too great.
Icky, I know, but just wanted to let you know that it may not be a symptom.

Thanks Bleenie. It was a tough loss for us as she was 1 of our original ducks.

Runnerducks thanks for the info. I hadn't considered that. Will probably never know what happened.

So sorry to hear about what has happened.. Its hard enough to loose them without the added sadness of the way she was found. Hope the egg hatches for you..

I am so sorry you lost your runner duck, it is hard to lose our friends. Runner is now over the Rainbow Bridge. Sorry about the way you found runner.
Best wishes and good hatching for the egg.
