Hi everyone. Today I recently re home two runner ducks. Their eyes were almost forced closed by mud and hadn’t been let outside. Anyway I’ve cleaned them and they seem happy but I have two questions.

What is a sign of a healthy runner duck?

Sexing? They both have the mallard colours with the green head. Extreamly beautful. Unfortunately they have no drake feather. Could this be just down to a recent Molt? Is it possible for a duck to have the same green head and neck as the drake.

Thanks in advance xx

I think the green heads are an indicator of sex with every duck breed. I’m not sure tho.

Pictures would be helpful, but I'm betting both are drakes. Poor guys, at least you were able to clean their eyes out. Poor nutrition could have caused their curly tail feathers to fall out and it could be due to recent molt, you'll just have to wait and see. A healthy runner duck should be an all around active/busy duck that loves to forage and stay occupied, but like any other duck they will sleep part of the day if there's nothing else to do. I think it's great you were able to give them a good home :)

I want to see them, I have Runners and love them to bits.

Bless you for taking them in to your heart.
My Runner drake lost his curl when he molted big his first year. it never came back but he still has his raspy voice.
