OK so I found out today that my duckie girls are actually Runner ducks. Thanks to some people here.

So I have a couple questions.

1) Typically when do they start laying?

2) If you have or had them, what do you like about them?

3) Can they handle cold winters?

4) Care to show me yours?

Thanks!

mine started laying around 20 weeks. i love them because they have a ton of personality and being so tall and upright they walk and run really funny! out of all my ducks they where the first to come knock on my slider when they thought that they should get treats.
i will try and get some pics of them running around

the top 1 is my fawn and white and the other is my choclate. i have others but they are just babies. anyway thay arnt standing all the way up in the shots but might give you an idea

I have one but she is a production duck and doesn't look very "runnerish". She is very shy. I actually rescued her from a place that uses runners to train herd dogs when she was about a year old. They were downsizing their flock for over wintering. Had I not adopted her, I am sure she would have been someone's dinner.

She is a very consistent layer and I get an egg from her almost every day. The eggs are HUGE

She is in the back in this photo...

Even though she is very skittish, she really is a sweet duck...always nice to the younger ducks. Not a mean bone in her body.

My runner is a drake so of course he doesn't lay but they are supposed to be better layers than chickens. He was a rescue so he is very skittish but he is very nice to other ducks. I love the way he runs, hense the name "runner". He is very fast and pretty much impossible to catch unless cornered!
