Thinking about selling whole flock and get some runners!!! Sand Hill Preservation Center and Holderreads and Ideal Poultry are some of my choices

If you want quality, go with holderread for sure. Just make sure you know everything you can about the crested gene and how it works. Some people think all the ducklings will come out crested and thats not true. only about half. It's also a lethal gene. If you breed crested to crested, you run the risk of major birth defects. I'm not sure of the ratio, but i know the number of fatalities is usually high with some or all of those experiencing kinked or twisted necks or other major deformities. I think its about 25% expected to hatch healthy on that breeding. Most people breed crested to noncrested and get 25% dont survive. Of the rest, I believe it should be half and half. Spring will be when i breed my first cresteds so all this is what i have read, mainly here on BYC. Just wanted to share some knowledge even though it may be partially incorrect. maybe someone else will chime in.
