Yesterday was a big day! My runners showed me how they can climb out of a fenced area! Yay!
This is not a big bad deal. They are only in the temporary fence area while I am outside with them. It is - er was - a convenience for me to have them corraled in one spot while I worked the gardens.
But yesterday they decided they wanted to work the gardens with me, so up, over and out they went, then over toward where I was working. Only three got out before I realized something was going on. They had been making their "hey guys, I found something really cool" noise, which I wrongly figured was a cache of slugs. Nope, their really cool thing was that with a few wing flaps they could scale the three foot poultry fence and slip out under the netting across the top.
sigh
I am blessed with a sweet flock of ducks who are very cooperative, so everyone was back in the fence in a few minutes, no harm done.
They will be excellent garden helpers once I have the rotational foraging system set up. They are ready to begin before I am!
