Running pen

Should I keep the running chicken pen all dirt or put pine shavings all in the pen? I do have the Pine shavings in the coop.

A lot of us do what's called "deep litter" in the run once all the grass is gone. Shavings, leaves, lawn clippings, hay, and so on.

This is what my running pen looks like and that's what I was wondering about putting all pine shavings in
