She pulled him closer with her tail. "It's not that he doesn't care, not that at all. I happen to know that he cares very much. It's just that he's had his paws full lately with everything going on." She gave him a lick on the head.
 
"Oh." He mewed, looking at his paws. "So, my mother is deputy and my father is leader.... How about that?"

"Yes," she sighed, licking him again. "I know it must feel kind of overwhelming to find that out so quickly. He has visited you, you just can't remember. He's trying."

Thistlekit nodded again. "Well, at least I know he's my father now..... And maybe he'll be able to talk to us more...?"

Bramblestar was sitting on the opposite side of camp, watching the sun go down and preparing all the cats that were going to the gathering to gather near the exit so they could leave soon.

"Maybe he will," she said brightly. "Of course there's still figuring out the Dark Forest and all that, but hopefully so." She gave him another lick. "Now, I've got to be heading to the gathering soon, so listen to Whiteshie and Sunshine, okay?"

"I will." He mewed happily and went to the nursery where they were waiting. Rainkit told Whiteshine about the plan very quickly and what was going on with Batkit then hurried over to Lilyflight and hid underneath her belly, preparing for the trip to Fourtrees.

"You're going to pretend like you followed me without anyone knowing, okay?" she told her, unsure whether someone had already spoken with her about the plan.

"Okay." She whispered back.

Once Bramblestar had seen Lilyflight join them and then a little orange pelt running across camp and hiding underneath her, he nodded and said, "Let's go!" And led the way out of camp and into the forest, setting a nice brisk pace so they could make it on time.
