"Goodnight," Lilyflight replied. Making sure Thistlekit and Rainkit were asleep, she picked her way delicately over the nursery floor and went to check on Owlkit.

*A few days later*
Whiteshine blinked open her eyes sleepily and looked down at Snowkit. "Good morning, little one." She mewed lovingly and gently nuzzled her.
After trying a couple of times, Snowkit managed to stretch her eyes open and look around. At first everything was fuzzy, but then it got clearer.
Whiteshine gasped. "Snowkit, my lovely little girl!" She mewed happily, watching her look around. She gently licked Snowkit's eyes to help them open the rest of the way.
She giggled as her mother licked her eyes. "What color are they?" she squeaked.
Whiteshine pulled her head away and took a good look at them. "A beautiful yellow, just like your dad's." She said after a moment.
"Do you think he'll be happy?" she asked happily. "When will he come in? I've never seen him!"
"He'll be extremely happy." Whiteshine assured her. "He'll come in once he's done with patrol." She promised.
"When's that?" She turned her head to look outside, but quickly snapped it back. The sun was too bright.
Whiteshine twitched her whiskers with amusement. "I don't know when, sometimes patrols can take a long time."
