*Running with the Flood* A Warrior Cat RP~Open~

“You know what? I trust you. I think I can say it, but we can’t be overheard.”

“Rest now.” Floodpaw kept her voice as gentle as if she were talking to a kit.

“Me too,” he admitted.
He nodded, then looked around making sure he couldn't scent or hear any cat.

His eyes fluttered back close, and soon he was in a fitful sleep.

She gently groomed his ears. "What things were you thinking?"

Redfrond stopped. "Is it just me or is something going on with Snowpaw?" he blurted

After hesitating for another heartbeat, Snowpaw admitted to him her power and the StarClan visits, but leaving out the details of Hazelkit and Spottedleaf, and Rainbird and Thistlefern. He could find the rest out when he got used to the idea.

Floodpaw gently stroked his fur with one paw.

“Just remembering the visit, and what he said.”

“The only thing I’m surprised about is that we haven’t talked about this earlier. Yeah, something’s definitely going on with her. She never gets distracted so easily!”

His mouth gaped open. "So... your a prophecy kit?!"

"Lilyflight?" He mumbled in his sleep

She nodded. "What did he tell you?" She spoke gently, still grooming his ears.

"I know! It's so weird! I'm... worried about her."

“Well, yeah,” she mumbled, slightly embarrassed. “But I’m really stressed out because of what it means, and I can feel Floodpaw’s stress, and Bramblestar’s pain, and pretty much every emotion in camp, and... It’s exhausting me. I can’t focus on anything anymore!”

“Lilyflight is with your kits,” she murmured.

“He- He said I have to take care of you and Hazelkit now. I promised him I would.”

“I am too,” she admitted. “This isn’t like her.”

He pressed against her side. "Alright... I'll try to help you." After thinking a moment he mewed "Try narrowing down your focus. Focus on... The sound of the wind, nothing else. Don't let your senses range too far. Kind of like Dovewing."

"My kits... I can't let them see me weak like this." He mumbled, still asleep. His left hind leg fidgeted stubbornly.

She looked him in the eyes. "I know your the only tom in our small family now, but I promise I will always take care of both of you. Your my kits, it's my job as your mother. So all you need to worry about is Hazelkit, and that shouldn't be too hard."

"What should we do?"

Snowpaw took a deep breath and tried her best. The wind, the wind.... I’m not Floodpaw.
I’m not Bramblestar. I’m not sick.
Slowly but surely, she was able to hold concentration for a bit, but it still wasn’t enough yet.

“They’re in the nursery,” Floodpaw soothed.

“I understand.”

“Do you think Whiteshine knows anything about this? We might be better off asking her, but I also don’t want her to worry...” She cocked her head thoughtfully. “But then again, a queen always worries for her kit.”

"It's alright. The more you practice, the better you'll become at tuning things out." He said encouragingly

He fell silent, other than an occasionally whimper or two

She curled around him, purring. "Do you want to know what he said to me?"

"She might... I'm not sure. I think we should ask her if Snowpaw will need a few days off from training."

“I don’t know... I’ve been trying since I was newly apprenticed,
sometimes even as a kit! I just thought it was normal, but it’s been getting worse as stress runs higher in the Clan.”

“It’s alright. Rest.”

“What?”

“Perhaps. We can see if she knows anything.”

He nodded sympathetically. "However we have to, we'll figure it out together, I promise. I'm gonna be your mate one day,-" His pelt grew slightly hot- "so I'm gonna stick by your side, no matter what difficulties challenge us."

Finally, he seemed to sink into a deep sleep.

"It's time to make you a full medicine cat. Tonight at half-moon." Owlherb announced proudly."

"He said that no matter what I do, he'll be happy. He said that I should find another mate, he doesn't want his kits to grow up without a father." She smiled wistfully

He nodded. "Right. After we win this hunting competition though."

“Thanks. I should have known you’d be alright with it.” She rested her tail on his shoulder briefly.

Floodpaw felt a brief surge of relief, but she didn’t stop to rest. Instead she began making more poultice out of juniper berries, marigold, horsetail, and a few other herbs. She looked up quickly as Owlherb spoke. “I can’t leave Bramblestar,” she protested, despite the excitement that stirred deep inside her.

“Another father?” he echoed, surprised.

“Sure. But I have a feeling those two didn’t really want a hunting competition, just some time alone.” Her whiskers twitched.
