This is our 4-year-old Barred Rock hen that hasn't layed eggs for over a year now. I took this photo today of her and I have no idea of what this is or how to start helping her. Thanks for any help. She is eating and moving about fine. As you can see this is below her vent. I did wet her rear end down before this photo so you could see better so that is why it's so wet back there.

It looks like she may have FlyStrike. Did you notice any maggots?

Flush the wound well with saline, diluted betadine, chlorhexidine (hibiclens) or if you don't have that, warm soapy water (rinse well).

Apply Vetericyn or triple antibiotic ointment to the wound and place her where she won't be picked on and where flies can't get into the wound.

You may want to consider giving her a round of antibiotics. Do you have any on hand, if so, what are they?
Procaine Penicillin G can be found in the refrigerated section of most Tractor Supply stores, that is usually the easiest to get a hold of. Dosage is 1/4cc injected into the breast muscle 1/4" deep for 4 days.

If she has not laid eggs in over a year, likely she has a reproductive disorder. She may have ruptured a little from fluid/mass in the abdomen or another hen pecked at her bottom creating a small wound that became infested. Does the wound seem to go deeply into her abdomen or is it more superficial? The worry is always that the wound is open into the body cavity.

Keep her hydrated and eating. She may benefit from poultry vitamins and extra protein as well.

Let us know how she's doing.

Very helpful links. Thank you! I have nothing in the way of meds etc. I do have Neosporin and I will set-up her hospital/ fly free cage today. The wound does not appear to be deeper but I only pushed on it a little. I didn't see any maggots. I will go to the TS tomorrow morning. And I will start to wash my chickens' butts when needed.

Keep us posted.

Yes, a poopy butt can also attract flies. Hot weather it can take less than 24hrs for maggots to hatch and start working on weakened/irritated flesh, so a wound can develop very quickly.

Hope it's isolated to what is visible and she recovers. Eggs can continue to hatch so be vigilant about checking for any signs of maggots. Best of luck with her.
