Russian Orloff Thread

I had never heard of Orloffs until I stumbled across them today on BYC.
I picked up this guy last spring at a swap. He has turned into the sweetest roo!
He's just an EE, but I was struck at how much he resembles the orloff picts I've seen.

Ha! You and me both apparently!
I plan on keeping my Orloffs for eggs and breeding them (as well as stew pot). So far they have grown quite quickly and get along very well with one another and the two hens I had already owned.

As far as Virginia or North Carolina breeders I'm new to this so I don't know any, but I have some close friends that live in Charlottesville so maybe someday down the line I can arrange to send a few birds or eggs with them. Who knows?

Really would like to find a breeder near me. The 'big spring swap' is coming up in a few months - anyone here go to the Gilmanor swap???
I was online earlier today looking at some sale adds and saw a farm that was selling them for $25/chick. Is this normal??? <gasp>

The Russian Orloff Society of the US and Canada has an orloff-tracker map where members are able to list where they are and who has birds or eggs to sell. In Fayetteville NC there is actually a breeder/hatchery that could help you out. this is their website: http://www.fayettevillepoultrychicks.com/

They're members of the Society and should have a good stock for you to start out from. Hopefully that helps!
@vtguania is kind of the ringleader for the club and is an incredible organizer, if you have questions Julio is your guy. (or I guess the people that post in this and the other Orloff thread)
