I feed flock raiser since I have roosters, but the layer feed is probably fine for now. Definitely good to switch away from the scratch tho! I hope she keeps getting strongerNot yet.

I switched to the layer feed but have purina flock raiser being delivered tomorrow. This morning I found my rooster laying down and not well just like my sick hen. She hasn’t improved. I give her vitamins, extra vitamin E, the new food and water daily. She is eating but her legs have not improved. Now my rooster… and he was definitely drinking alot of water and he was eating the new food. It like they were up and normal one day and down the following.I feed flock raiser since I have roosters, but the layer feed is probably fine for now. I know vitamin deficiencies take awhile to recover from, so give it some time! If you have a vet nearby it might be worth taking them in. I’m sorry they’re not feeling well. I have lost chickens over this last month and it hurts losing your babies. :-(I switched to the layer feed but have purina flock raiser being delivered tomorrow. I have my silkies in a coop with roost bars that are 2 ft up, but they do get to them via a ramp. I also have bantam Cochins that roost up in the top roosts of my 5 ft tall coop! But I do have different levels to get to the up high roosts. You might consider a ramp to the roost or a mid level roost too? Maybe a foot up? Then they have a choice or a place to jump if unbalanced? I’m so sorry about your babies. I hope this is the last of your problemsUpdate: my last 2 hens are doing good I switched their feed to purina flockraiser. Going to try to find some Purina hen crumbles. I think my rooster (Silkie) died of a head injury. I put it all together finally today.
I think he fell off the roosting perch I placed in the coop about 2ft high and hit his head. Silkies are not supposed to fly or be up that high, right? He used to climb the ramp I had beside it to a nesting box I raised up and managed to get up there to be with Chicoleta (a flying mixed breed)the hen he loved. I bet he tried to mate n fell n hit his head. He looked woozy n died in one day. And i found him laying right below the spot where he got up on that bar.
My hen that died… I’m still not sure. She was super dehydrated. Could she have been to scared to get water? She was bottom if the pecking order and scared of my roo. Or did she fall off the roosting bar when sleeping and hurt her leg too? It would be her first time using a roosting bar. Is that possible?
Is 2ft to high? That bar was new… in the coop 1 week and these 2 things happened.
Do hens fall off at night? Is 2ft too high? Im going to lower it alot. I have only one silkie and the really good flying mixed breed hen left.
Thank you! I want to move the roost a foot lowerI have my silkies in a coop with roost bars that are 2 ft up, but they do get to them via a ramp.
