My two chicks are now 5 weeks old. I am a total newbie and would really like to know what colour they are and also if anybody has any idea of what gender they are. I have done loads of research but can't seem to find examples of either breed at 5 weeks identifying gender. Sorry about the rubbish pictures of the Brahma, he/she wouldn't keep still for long enough. Will post some more when I get some decent ones
Many thanks

Oh no i am gutted i have a cockrel as I can't keep him where I live. Can anybody tell me how they can tell he is a boy as I have 3 other sablepoots at 2 weeks old and would like to know how I can tell, is it just to do with comb size? Also how can you tell the Brahma is a girl? I look at all the posts for gender on here to try and get more informed but I am struggling a bit

Many thanks for the replies akcountrygrrl and Chick1043, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

His comb is too big for him to be a hen. The way you tell if it's a boy or girl or not is boys will have large combs, thick legs, taller curvier tail feathers, have saddle feathers(feathers on the back right before the tail) that hang down(they come in later though), and stand in a taller position. Pullets will have small combs, rounder tail and body feathers, and stand in a lower position. Hope this helps!

my dark Brahma's you could tell by week 4 which one was a rooster.. he started getting his comb pink'ing and wattles.. also with roos they get a dark shawl like feathering over the shoulders and have less penceiling then the pullets..

good luck sorry about the little milie f. cockerel.

rooster in the making.. by the way he is DA MAN.. couldn't ask for a better rooster... life is so much easier with him around.. to keep control off all the girls..

Thank you so much guys, that is really helpfull. My Brahma's comb is identical to Jezebel's, it was really good to see the difference between the pullet and the rooster Pink, thanks loads. I will be able to name them properly now and look for a nice home for my Sablepoot.
