aoxa, it seems to me you're well on your way to having the LGD of your dreams! I really can't add much more and frankly I think by this time next year, your lovely girl will have it all figured out. I do think a mix of Pyr/Maremma is good. I had a purebred Maremma at one point and he was completely untrainable. Re-homed him to a goat breeder who kept him in the pens with the goats. Btw, I love your set up - so picturesque and functional. Thank you for all the photos!

The puppy thing is up in the air. I'm mulling my DH's ultimatum of it's him or a new dog. What are your thoughts?

I think Maremmas are less friendly to humans, but I met Clementine's father (who was the Maremma) and he was very laid back and docile. Thanks! I really appreciate that, though it's not as beautiful as your field with your lovely horse! Thought I'd share a couple more images just for fun...

Oh, forgot about the mouthing and jumping...whenever I'm training a dog - any breed - the minute they jump I raise my knee and say "Down". They hit the point of my knee and it doesn't feel good. The only problem with that method is everyone they come into contact with must also do it or they learn who they can jump on. Soon (some dogs take longer than others), just the command will stop her.

As for the mouthing, I grab their mouth as soon as they start the mouthing behavior and hold it closed without applying any pressure (the object is to make them uncomfortable but not to inflict pain). When the point has been made, I release and pet just so they know there are no hard feelings.

Also your dog is the exact age when the puppy teeth start to fall out and adult teeth to come in. Something to gnaw on makes their sore gums feel better. Most anything works - a bone, chew toy, shoes (jk).

She tore her bed apart lol. That must be what that was about. I will try your methods. I have only tried holding the mouth shut with pressure. She always tried to play when I did this more. I'll try no pressure. And I hope my reflexes are fast enough! lol

Thanks for the help. My smaller dogs were so much easier to train :p
