Sad Day At The PeaPen...

I would turn it over to the game comission. You could take that thing miles away and it will always find its way back. Too much to loose sleep over.... not knowing what he'll take next.

*UPDATE*
Came home from work and found the killer. It was a fox mix. It is not a pure fox cause this one has no bushy tail and is a little larger then the red fox that used to hang out in my front yard. I am thinking the mother bred to a med size dog and had this guy. I have him in a poultry cage in the back yard. I got him with what I could find a 2x2 x 30 inch perch I use to get the birds out of the rafters in the shed with. Granted it is broken into pieces as I kept hitting the fox with it. I knocked him out! He killed 3 of my little buddies that followed me everywhere, he also killed 4 more big egg layers I just bought at auction and another male guinea hen. One of my charcoal peahens looks like he got her but might just be he got her feathers won't know til morning. My roommate stopped me from beaten it to death because that is not who I am but I kept seeing death all around me and I knew if I let it go it will only come back. We are going to take it for a long ride and dump it off if it is still alive in the morning. It will have to cross 2 highways to get back to my house. I do not know what else to do with it?

I am really sorry for your losses, that would be soo heart breaking!

Please do NOT take it and drop it off. In most (if not all) states that is illegal. Part of the reason is that you don't know what diseases it could be carrying and dropping it somewhere else you would be helping the disease spread. Rabies can take quite a while to show symptoms. Do you have any pictures? I have never heard of a fox/dog cross and really am not sure it's genetically possible. It could be a fox with mange or a coyote (or a coyote/dog hybrid). Shoot it or get the state to come get it.

Unfortunately 20 miles wouldn't be far enough to deter a fox, so if its hunger exceeds its mental trauma of that whoopin', it will be back. You would have to really tote it off. Best to put it down or call a wildlife/ game officer.

So glade ya caught th critter but please finish him off and don't hall him away, i live in one of those way out places and sometimes i get critters here that i know must have been relocated, no animal is dumb enough to walk into the territory of 8 to 10 dogs anyhow they never leave here alive.

It is highly unlikely your critter is a hybred, there genitic makeup dosn't allow it from what i have read, something about the chrimosomes don't match up.

Hey by the way where is the photo of your critter?

Kill it or turn it over to the state. There is of course the chance that it will find its way back, but there's also a chance it won't, and that it will end up killing someone else's birds and/or other pets. This is the major reason why we never ever ever relocate anything.

I'm glad you caught it! Hope the peahen is okay, and that things go back to normal now.

OK the Southington game guy came over. He said the laws have changed and he CANNOT take the fox. All he can do is tell me to either let it go or shot it. I do not own a gun so I penned it. It is a fox but he said it is a larger one. Looks like a young female but he said it is a sickly looking one cause it looks like it got into a fight with another animal. It also got sprayed by a skunk which happened before he enter my pen cause there is a strong smell of skunkcoming from the horse field. I did beat it kinda bad and the guy told me that it most likely will die if I release it. It has a large lump on it's back where the wood I hit him with broke. The guy told me unfortunately it was doing what it normally does hunt so I shouldn't hate the fox for being a fox. I cannot take him somewhere and drop her off as that IS against the law now. The man said that is what they did when someone would call about them. He also told me that I have the right to protect my animals and if a coyote or anything goes after my animals I can shoot it. That I did not know cause I thought the coyotes were protected? Well I put the fox into a dog run and she cannot get out of it. I gave her a dog house full of hay and she is inside sleeping. She will remain in jail til I decide that she is fit to be released from it or her her back heals. If she looks healthy then too I will relocate her, but if she turns out to be sick the neighbor has a gun...

I would shoot it.... its not gonna change. It has the taste of blood and it will always be looking for its next kill. Most times animals like that kill for sport. Always killing more than they need. Just my opinion....

Save yourself (and your neighbors, or whom-ever you would release it by) some trouble and just shoot it... there's no way I'd risk it coming back to kill more birds and you missing it next time.

Thanks for the feedback. Right now it is in a dog run. I was told that it would be going crazy trying to get out, but it is not. I know it can move cause at dark it eats, drinks, pees and poos. Then it goes back into the dog house and sleeps. It has not tried to get out of that pen at all. It actually seems content right now. At this moment it is still serving it's sentence in jail for 22 counts of murder and I will decide what to do later. Maybe I will get it spayed?
