No suggestions really needed, just wanted to share how I’m feeling today about the sad part of owning chickens.

I went out to check on my chickens this afternoon because of the almost 100 degree heat and I found my one hen Honey dead on the ground. I feel so sad. She was old when I got her from a relative and then my dog had attacked her and I nursed her back to health for over a month so I had developed a special attachment to her.

I can’t help but feel I could have done something else to save her. All my chickens have access to 24/7 shaded grass, I filled their water late last night and their food in anticipation of the heat. She was in the nesting box later yesterday which was odd and now I’m wishing I took her and gave a good look over but I didn’t. Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve. I know she was probably 6/7 years old or older and my other hen who was I’m assuming a hatch mate died earlier this year from reproductive issues, but it’s still saddening.

Im sorry for your loss. They are special & have quite the knack of working their way into the center of your heart. I dread the day i have an issue with my Girls.
They definitely do. My husband isn’t as upset but that’s because they really are my pets more or less. He’s sad ones gone but it’s just a chicken to him.

It really is, tomorrow is supposed to be about the same too so I’m going to try and give some ice cubes in their water or something I guess
Are you able to pick up some electrolytes? Maybe a fan for air movement. A pan with water to set them in?(my Girls don't care much for water, but if I hold them & they stand in it it definitely helps)....and then they take a dust bath. I hope all goes well for you. 16288287526515015545142990023510.jpg
