Peace, Love & Chickens ✌️
No suggestions really needed, just wanted to share how I’m feeling today about the sad part of owning chickens.
I went out to check on my chickens this afternoon because of the almost 100 degree heat and I found my one hen Honey dead on the ground. I feel so sad. She was old when I got her from a relative and then my dog had attacked her and I nursed her back to health for over a month so I had developed a special attachment to her.
I can’t help but feel I could have done something else to save her. All my chickens have access to 24/7 shaded grass, I filled their water late last night and their food in anticipation of the heat. She was in the nesting box later yesterday which was odd and now I’m wishing I took her and gave a good look over but I didn’t. Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve. I know she was probably 6/7 years old or older and my other hen who was I’m assuming a hatch mate died earlier this year from reproductive issues, but it’s still saddening.
