Rip to my sweet americana "Mama"

. I had to make the tough decision today to cull her after she was attacked by a dog about a week ago and showed no signs of improvement. She's no longer suffering but ive never been sadder over the loss of a hen. I feel like I failed her.

I'm so sorry! I know what it feels like to have to cull your favorite chicken.

You didn’t fail her. You gave her a good life, a good home, lots of treats, and obviously you loved her. The feeling of failure is something that comes with a loss, that and the “what if” feeling. You did everything you could. You loved her and I am sure she loved you back. My only advice is to just cry and grieve. She was a stunning chicken and it may feel like the world can’t go on but it can. Everyone here knows how you feel, we’ve all suffered loss/es, we know how hard it is. Just know we are all here for you. She seemed like a good mother, she had some really cute chicks to.

Just remember if you ever need a shoulder to cry on we are all here for you

I see it the bottom picture she has chicks. Are they alive and well?

Unfortunately she had a total of 5, the first 3 she had got took out by an owl and the other two were roosters which got rehomed. So sadly I do not have one to carry on her legacy
