I had a broody hen that had been setting for about a month so since we only have laying hens we had no fertilized eggs to hatch out. So I bought some from a gentleman from BYC. She sat on them and all but three where fertile. Two died afer being born. Then three days later the last one hatch live and well. We kept the hen and the chick in the brooder for about 10 days and started to let them roam with the other hens when we let them out. It was the cutest thing.
This morning dh found the little chick dead it had drowned in the dog's wading pool. Then I go to do the chores and I fined my broody hen had been killed by a raccoon. Needless to say I cried. Because these were my favorites. Thier names were Broody Princess and Trooper.
