I posted before I added 4 texas a&ms to my male and female coturnix. Discovered 2 were male and terrorizing my female cortunix. Scalped her, picking on the male cortunix so we removed the 2 male a&ms. Today I go to refill water and food to find bloodshed...the 2 a&ms had blood all over them. My 2 cortunix were hiding. One had her eye pecked out and pretty much bled out. There was sooo much blood. And I know they don't have much to begin with. Barely breathing :( the other once I removed the injured one came out and seemed ok. The cortunix came out of hiding as well... I am devastated. And now the ones in the incubator, 10 of their own...I am having second thoughts :( :'( :'(

It was so sad...I couldn't let it suffer and had to help...that was harder than words can describe. I'm a nurse and it made me cry and was sick to my stomach. I was just so grateful that I intercepted my 10yo from seeing their coop ...

Yesterday one of my newly fledged Chinese quail was looking out of her box and one of my cot quails pecked at its eye. Sad things but sometimes happen.

On a positive note, you will be impresses by the healing capacity of these little birds! I had one female scalped by a bobwhite to the extent that she could not feed and drink and I had to hand feed her. One week and she was back on her feet running around her nursery cage. One month and only the feathers were missing...all the rest was fine!
