Sad story (disturbing)

Awwww what a cutie!
ive ahd alot of people ask me and actually a few people try to tell me cesar was a pitbull! one guy swore up and down i got jipped that cesar was a pit bull and not this "so called none exsistnat breed called bull terriers"
big_smile.png
i said "really? no such thing as a Bull terrier? i said wow! sure fooled me! and the AKC and hundreds of dog shows" boy was HE mad
some differances between Bull terriers and pit bulls?
Bull terriers are WAY WAY more stubborn and independant big time breeders will tell you that training a Bull terrier to do basic sit, stay, lie down commands 100 percent is nearly impossable

Bull terriers are less likly to start fights then pit bulls BUT are more likely to finish the fight.

Bull terriers seem to have higher prey drives(so ive heard) people are still useing Bull terriers to bring down wild boars.

I have a general rule not to own any animal that can fit my entire face in its mouth.

That mean no pitties, rotties, gsd, mastiffs, great danes, etc...

Sure, there are plenty of ill-tempered little dogs that could snap and go for my throat. But would you rather fight off a yorkie or a pitt bull?

Lets give you another example. You are in a dark alley alone with no weapons. Would you rather be attacked by an 5' tall overweight 80 year old or a 6' tall, muscular 24 year old special forces trained ninja?

I wont even own chickens. Those beaks look rather pointy...

Yeah! I have had straight up THUGS come up to me and ask if they could breed their pitts to my "pitt". Im like, "UH. NO." not to mention the fact that he is so neutered that his butt is completely streamline. DUH.

I was lucky to get a bully with ZERO prey drive.

however if a dog comes ANYWHERE near him he goes into defense mode. Unless it is an older, slow moving dog he feels it is out to get him.

sorry to have hyjacked this thread, its very rare and exciting to find other BT owners!

but thats just being prejudice! your becoming afraid when you shouldnt be yes we should all respect the breeds we should respect all dogs in fact all animals in fact! i dont belive you should ever go into meeting or owning a dog expecting it to become aggressive thats just asking for trouble. i have no qualms about reaching into cesars mouth to take away anything wether its a toy, bone, scrap of food it dont matter becuase im his leader he knows ill kick his bum if he were try anything becuase since day one ive been consitant with all my rules. cesar is only 9 months old and i can let him outside without a lead on and no fence as soon as i call he comes runnin!

@aubreynoramarie
i love your pic tooo cute! now i want to get a pic of cesar and the baby button chicks!
its pretty commen in bull terriers to become very dominant around other dogs which is what really suprised me with cesar some dogs he will show his dominace over but with others he has no problems putting his tail between his legs and rolling over for another dog but cesar stayed with the breeder living with basically a pack of dogs untill he was 5 months old and the breeders dog if a pup tried pulling anything like growling at an older dog allll the other dogs would rush him and make him stop the breeder had 12 bull terriers,4 chihuahuas and 2 bull dogs who were all always tgether they were never seperated not even during feeding time and no one fought if the pups from the litters were rough with the chihuahuas or tried pushing them around the adult bulies would take over and discipline the younger ones. even now i take cesar over to be around the other dogs as often as i can which is fairly often since they only live 2 houses down.
one day while walkiing cesar we had a HUGE rotwieler come running out at us on the road the hair on its back up it growling and looking like it was going to attack went up to cesar and sniffed him cesar just stood his ground and then cesar started bouncing around then the rotty started bouncing around and before i knew it they were playing like pups then a person ran out from a yard and yelled at me NOT to move i said "oh its ok no problem i walked cesar over to hte man in the yard whos jaw was hanging open and the happy rotty followed close behind cesar giving playful nips to his bum. the man grabbed his dog and quick put him inside and he told me "i rescued this dog from being euthinized becuase hes killed other dogs im not allowed to walk him without a muzzle he hates other dogs all dogs big dogs small dogs he will kill them he tore the lock off my front door just now to get out here" i was in complete shock as was the rottys owner but somhow cesar got that dog killer to become frisky and playful! thats cesar though he can get dog haters to fall in love with him!

No...it's called risk assessment and common sense.

your becoming afraid when you shouldnt be yes we should all respect the breeds we should respect all dogs in fact all animals in fact!

Respecting a dog for its natural abilities isn't fear. I respect the work done by GSDs. I respect the abilities of working dogs. Doesn't mean it is smart for just anyone to own one!

I find much of the problem, is that people get this idea that pit bulls were bred to be aggressive to people. I just don't understand the reasoning. They were bred to be dog aggressive - not people aggressive. If they were people aggressive, how would the handlers pull them out of the ring when they are fighting, without dying/being attacked in the process? They are tenacious but loyal (and I mean extremely loyal) dogs.

The media has hyped it up beyond all belief. There are several different breeds that they throw under the "pit bull" category, including ANY crossbred that seems to have the features. It's true; unethical and slack breeding, for unethical purposes has done damage, as well as how many people seem to not know how to raise a dog (not saying I've done it perfectly). But the fact of life is that any dog - pit, gsd, dobie, rottie, dalmatian, lab - can turn aggressive at any moment. Any animal can for that matter, including human beings.

I've encountered a lot of pitt types so far in my life. And a lot of labs. And I can tell you right now, that I've almost been bitten/attacked by several labs, but not one pit or staffordshire or cross I've been around has even made a move to make me nervous. And hands down, the two most aggressive dogs I've ever met was a full bred border collie and a border collie / lab mix.

You have it right and wrong. In the old days, the "dog men" would indeed breed dogs who were sooo not human aggressive they could be handled while fighting. A dog who bit was killed, period. (my info comes from a friend whose great grampa was quite the "dog man")

However, in the last few decades, they HAVE been bred to be aggressive by thugs and drug dealers who want guard dogs. There are a LOT of unstable pit bulls out there, unfortunately. There are a LOT of superb ones too, and it's sad that there are so many out there that do give the breed a bad rap. A good one is worth it's weight in gold. Maybe more, since they arent really supposed to be large dogs, LOL!

Ive never had one to know temperament but I think its thought of sorta like the English bulldog. They were bred to be mean at first but have been bred for show an pets almost exclusively for over 100 years.

The difference is that the BT is a terrier, and boy you sure can't breed the terrier out of a terrier no matter how hard you try! Feisty things those terriers!

I agree. We have a BT - BT is nothing, nothing like an english bulldog. Ours can crush a solid rubber ball to half size in his mouth, those compressed kong ones. Pits are very easy to train and control in comparison to a BT. This is not my opinion, this is the OP of one of our trainers. They can be very hyper, they are extremely independent, and they are powerful. They are not a pit bull, but they are a "bully" breed. They are not for amatuers or begginers. Awesome dogs - but need experienced patient and responsible owners.

BTW, I have also had several Great Danes - they are not called "gentle giants" for nothing. My last one used to like to pretend to maul me like you see police dogs attack those guys with padded suits. You know, by the arm? Except when a GD has you by the arm, and you are 130 pound female and the GD is 165 pounds, the dog can swing you around. lol So anyways, she liked to play with me and pretend to shake me by the arm. To observers, this looked like she was attacking and shaking me around, but in actuality we were both co-operating in imaginary play. She would shake her head with my arm in her mouth, and I would move with her. lol Inside her mouth, she was actually touching me so lightly that I couldn't really feel anything but her slobber! You should have seen my friends faces when we did this. My point, she could put my whole head or arm in my mouth, but temperment and training go a long way.
