Well, we figured out what happened, we think...maybe this'll save someone else some grief. Our dog killed a rabbit three days ago and left it lay. She never eats them. Well, we were lax in picking it up; it was on the trail to the barn through our woods. Later that day something had taken a chunk out of it. Next day still more was eaten. Next day there was almost nothing left but fur. We think the hawk was eating that rabbit, and when it was gone, naturally it looked for something else. I didn't know they ate carrion, but I'm sure this one did. So next time we will make sure there's no dead bodies around the barn. I mean, we don't hold vendettas against the wildlife..everything has to eat...I just wish the hawks would leave our birds alone...we've had a lot of problems with hawks this year. these chicks were from a favorite too...our roo Whitey was the dad of some of them ,and we loved him. Our Dazzle roo was the father of the rest, andwe love him, too. They were our first chicks....thanks for everyones thoughts.

Very sorry for your loss......

Before, we were raising 2 chicks in a brooder. The other one was very active (chirp chirp all the time lol I want to sew her beak shut) (her name is Dorithy) and the other one was calm and quiet (probably a little sick) (her name is Blissey) for a project in school. After a few months, the calm one was really sick; it was lying on the floor, weakening, while the active one was jumping and chirping wildly. Then I saw Dorithy jumping on Blissey until she died.....Poor little chick.....Good thing Dorithy became dinner after submission, but still....I pity Blissey...
