Safe for chickens to eat?

Does anyone know what this is and if its ok for chickens? My lawn is covered with them and if they free range I don't want them getting into something that will make them sick.

What about fire ants? I know you can't use pesticides on a lawn that chickens will be free ranging on but we have tons of fire ants! Anyone have any chicken safe ideas to get rid of them?

Chickens won't voluntarily eat anything bad for them. Fire ants should not be a problem for grown chickens. You can encourage the fire ants to move by damaging the nest a few times. I mow any in my yard so that they will move to the flower beds, out of the way.

We have tried drowning them with lots of water from hot water tank when we cleaned it out and my husband does mow them so hopefully they will move along,
