Safe horse treats?

You can give them Beet Pulp made into a mash with warm water - let it sit for a bit to expand in water - mine love it with molassas mixed in. Works great for Hard keepers to keep weight on in winter when no grass is available. 1/2 scoop to start then up amount.

My horses enjoy Ritz crackers, Nutri-grain bars, corn chex, watermelon. DH's old horse would even eat ham sandwiches.

Ginger Snaps
Sugar Cookies
Marshmellows

I do occasionally make them mini "cupcakes" using:
Bran
Some of their feed
oatmeal
bananas
applesauce

They gobble those right up and I know what all is in them!

I had a horse that loved hot dogs, he'd try to steal them off the grill! I hear in mongolia they feed their horses meat when roughage is in short supply

As treats go horses can and will eat just about anything with the exception of a few things like avacodos which even I wont eat. My horses used to be finicky, but then they got jealous of the chickens and now they try to climb under the fence to get whatever the chickens have. It's like watching my husband try to reach under the bed for something just out of reach.

I'm sure you know they need mostly hay/forage, but they can have really anything in moderation. I even know I guy who feeds his horse moldy bread.

My horses are way to pampered for that, but it works for him and his horses are never sick. Mine will try to steal my husbands beer if they could, as it is they just have to be satisfied with smelling his breath.

Last summer I lost a hot dog I was holding away from the chickens. Next thing I knew the horses were fighting over it, and I was dogless.

If I got it they want it. They are way worse than a dog. Dogs mostly listen when you say no.
